Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Country code 42 was assigned to Czechoslovakia by ITU in the early 1960s.
Effective 28 February 1997, a split of country code 42 took effect:
Czech Republic: country code 420
Slovak Republic: country code 421
