1999-2001 - 8-digit subscriber numbers in Kuala Lumpur and area

Kuala Lumpur (+60 3) subscribers have been converted to an expanded 8-digit numbering scheme. Other areas in Malaysia were not affected. This was announced by carrier TM (Telekom Malaysia).

Other carriers in the area code (+60 3) are also expected to expand to 8-digit subscriber numbers, as called for by Malaysia telecom regulator Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Information on the remaining numbering expansion (throughout 2000) is available in a KDD bulletin of 16 August 2000.
